Suggest types for Viva Topics

Microsoft is enhancing its topic types to provide better contextual information and improve user experience. Currently, topic types are used to suggest categories such as products, projects, and events, and now they are adding over 150 more specific types like conference, framework, and process to help users distinguish topics. Topic contributors can select one or more types for the topic, and one type can be highlighted on the Topic Card and Page as a pill-shaped designation. Types will be suggested on suggested, confirmed, and published topics where possible and can be edited by contributors as needed. These updates are expected to roll out in late November for Targeted Release and early December for Standard Release.

This announcement is associated with Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID 72181. As a user, you can expect to see the types as part of the topic information on the topic page, card, and answer. If you are a contributor or knowledge manager, you will have the option to highlight a type as a badge. The default setting for published topics is without the badge. Overall, these updates are designed to help users better identify the relevant information and their purpose.
