Microsoft SharePoint Online: New section backgrounds in Pages and News
Microsoft SharePoint Online is providing its users with new features to enhance the aesthetics of their Pages and News. Users can now add curated image or gradient color backgrounds to page sections with improved focal points, fill mode, overlay, and opacity settings ensuring accessibility and readability. The new features will be rolled out in mid-March 2024 for Targeted Release and early April 2024 for Worldwide, GCC, GCC High, and DoD; SharePoint Page and News authors can access these new features while editing a page or news section. Unsupported section backgrounds will be replaced with SharePoint theme colors in emails. Microsoft has also announced that they will be launching features that allow the use of user-generated images as backgrounds in the future.
If you are a SharePoint Page and News author, you can access the new features by selecting "Edit section" in the Section panel while in Edit mode and choosing background options. Once a background is set, a see-through overlay will be automatically added to make the text easier to read. The rollout is expected to complete by mid-June 2024 for worldwide users.
Overall, this update offers users a chance to enhance the visual appeal of their pages and news, while still ensuring the content is accessible and readable.
