Improved management of Teams apps with capabilities extended to Outlook and the Microsoft 365 app via Integrated Apps

Improved management of Teams apps with capabilities extended to Outlook and the Microsoft 365 app via Integrated Apps

Microsoft has released a new feature that enables admins to manage Teams apps that are extended to Outlook and the Microsoft 365 app via Integrated Apps in the Microsoft 365 Admin Center. This allows Global Admins to control access and usage of these apps for users within their organization, granting them more flexibility and customization options. This feature is set to begin rolling out to standard release customers in early May 2023, with completion expected by mid-May 2023. Admins can now choose which users can install and use apps from the store, as well as set a default state for these apps across their organization. However, it's important to note that the control only impacts the usage of these apps within Outlook and the Microsoft 365 app, while the Teams Admin Center is still necessary for managing apps used within Teams. These changes will also be rolling out for the Azure Application Admin role by the end of May 2023.

This new feature enables admins to make specified apps available to all users, specific users, or no users at all. Admins can also make changes to both 1P/3P store apps and custom/LOB apps uploaded by the admin. Notably, the unselected users will not be able to install apps from the store if a specific set of users is chosen. This feature is expected to bring more organization and control to Teams app management and enhance overall user experience.
