Power Platform – Use Azure Key Vault secrets with environment variables
We are announcing the ability to use Azure Key Vault secrets with environment variables in Power Platform. This feature will reach general availability on May 15, 2025. How does this affect me? Environment variables in Power Platform will support referencing secrets stored in Azure Key Vault. This functionality allows secrets to be used within Power Automate flows and custom connectors. Secrets referenced through environment variables are not accessible in other types of customizations and are not available through the API. The environment variable does not store the secret itself. Instead, it stores a reference to the location of the secret in Azure Key Vault. The actual secret remains securely stored in Azure Key Vault. What action do I need to take? To enable this functionality, Azure Key Vault must be configured to grant Power Platform access to the specific secrets being referenced. This is done using a private link connection to enhance security. For more information about this feature and instructions on how to configure Azure Key Vault, see the documentation here.
