Windows Server 2012/R2: Extended Security Updates

Windows Server 2012/R2: Extended Security Updates

If you're still running Windows Server 2012, Windows Server R2 or Windows Embedded Server 2012 R2, you can now purchase up to an additional three years of Extended Security Updates (ESUs) to protect your workloads from security threats. Additionally, the ESUs are also available for Azure Stack HCI, Azure Stach Hub, and other Azure products. The ESUs can be purchased using multiple activation keys (MAK) and are available for on-premises and hosted environments.

However, it's important to note that the availability of ESUs for these products will begin from November 14, 2023. So, to protect devices that reach end of support, follow Microsoft's newly published guidance for purchasing, downloading, preparing and installing the ESU key, and activating it. Also, make sure to choose and follow the appropriate activation scenario based on your context: online, through proxy, by phone, or with special consideration for Azure products like virtual machines (VMs).

This article in M365 Admin provides details and step-by-step instructions to extend your ESUs for up to three consecutive 12-month increments. Follow the link to know more: Windows Server 2012/R2: Extended Security Updates
