Introducing Voice One Time Password (OTP)
Microsoft is introducing a new way of performing multifactor authentication with the introduction of the "voice one-time password (OTP)" method. This method will combine with the existing SMS authentication method and provide two delivery options to optimize delivery. Users who rely on SMS for MFA will have access to this new optimized channel starting in August 2023. Although voice calls have proved to be the least secure authentication method, Microsoft recognizes the need for this option for some users and recommends the Microsoft Authenticator app for a better user experience and more secure options such as Windows Hello for Business and FIDO2 security keys.
