Tenant Allow/Block List will allow related URLs

Tenant Allow/Block List will allow related URLs

If you're a tenant with Exchange Online Protection, Microsoft Defender for Plan 1 or Plan 2 or Microsoft 365 Defender plan, it's important to take note of the upcoming changes to Tenant Allow/Block List. With the current system, email messages can be blocked if they contain URLs that match certain sub-paths or portions of the URL. In the event of legitimate emails getting blocked, submitting them for correction could be a hassle. However, the new changes will introduce a partial matching behavior for allowed URLs via the Tenant/Allow Block List, eliminating the need for wild cards or multiple submissions.

To create an allow entry, simply submit the blocked email or URL to Microsoft, and an entry will be created for the pertinent URL in the Tenant Allow/Block List. Future emails containing URLs related to the allow entry will not be blocked based on the URL. This applies to any URL sub-path or portion that contains the allowed URL. The change will be rolled out between late March and mid-April of 2023, and the Allow List will automatically handle URLs without requiring any additional work from customers.

If you have existing URL allow entries in the block list, no action is required. The new changes will be implemented automatically, and Microsoft shall handle the process of adding URLs to the Allow List accordingly. The Message ID for this update is MC532602.
