Microsoft is bringing in a new version of Outlook for Windows, and as a result, COM add-ins will be replaced with web add-ins. Users can opt for the new version and install equivalent web add-ins during the onboarding process. The rollout will begin in late July 2024, and the general availability will be early August 2024. Microsoft is updating the default email and calendar apps on Microsoft Windows, transitioning from Mail, Calendar, and People to the new Microsoft Outlook for Windows. By selecting the "Try the New Outlook" toggle, users will be able to download the new app and switch to the new Outlook for Windows. This change isn't compatible with COM add-ins available in the classic Windows Outlook, but the equivalent web add-ins are compatible with the new version. To facilitate the transition for users, Microsoft has curated a list of COM add-ins that have corresponding web add-ins available. During the onboarding process to the new version, a user can consent to installing equivalent web add-ins from existing COM add-ins in the curated list. If a user has a COM add-in from the list, they can import settings, and a web add-in will be installed in the new version of Outlook for Windows.
