PowerBI Glossary - Custom Visuals
Custom visuals are a type of Power BI visual that can be created by developers outside of Microsoft. These visuals can be imported into Power BI reports from sources such as the Microsoft AppSource marketplace or third-party vendors. They enhance the default visuals provided by Power BI by offering more specialized and unique data visualizations for different kinds of data.
An end-user can use these visuals in their reports by importing them into their workspace, and then adding them to their report from the Visualizations pane. Once added, the custom visual will be populated with data based on the fields used in the report.
Custom visuals can also be created by a company's internal developers to meet specific visualization needs that are not met by Power BI's default visuals. They can be developed using open-source visualization frameworks such as D3.js, or frameworks specific to Power BI, such as the Power BI Visuals Toolbelt.
