Change to data classification for Copilot usage information in the Microsoft 365 admin center and Viva Insights

Microsoft has updated the classification of usage data for Copilot, and it is now considered required service data. This means that optional diagnostic data is no longer required for active usage metrics that are displayed in the Microsoft 365 Copilot usage report and a subset of metrics in the Microsoft Copilot Dashboard in Viva Insights. This change is effective immediately, and devices must be updated to the specified application versions to take effect. The update only applies to data points that convey intentional active usage of Microsoft 365 Copilot, such as the last activity date per user and count of users per Copilot feature. There are still five metrics in the Microsoft Copilot Dashboard in Viva Insights for which the underlying data will continue to be classified as optional diagnostic data and are documented in the Learn page for the Microsoft Copilot Dashboard. The post provides guidance on which application versions are required for this change to take effect and clarifies how this change affects organizations.
