The ‘Three E’s’ of Scam Disruption
In this episode of the Security Unlocked podcast, Juan Hardoy, an assistant general counsel with the Digital Crimes Unit (DCU) at Microsoft, joins hosts Natalia Godyla and Nic Fillingham to discuss the "Three E's" of scam disruption: Education, Engineering, and Enforcement. The DCU is an international team of investigators, analysts, and lawyers who work to protect customers and promote trust in Microsoft technologies by proactively disrupting cybercriminals who try to harm them. Juan explains how the team partners with governments, elected officials, and policymakers to bring these criminals to justice through criminal referrals and civil actions.
Throughout the episode, Juan emphasizes the importance of education in preventing tech scams and cybercrime, as well as the need for ongoing engineering efforts to develop new services and technologies to address emerging threats. He also answers questions about past tactics used to stop tech support scammers and why they seem to target individual consumers rather than organizations.
If you're interested in learning more about the work of the Digital Crimes Unit and how they're working to combat cybercrime, this episode is a must-listen. And for anyone looking to protect themselves from scams and improve their cybersecurity, Juan also stresses the importance of staying informed and vigilant.
