Power Platform – Customer-Managed Key (CMK) encrypted with Azure Key Vault Managed HSM key is now available

If you're a Dataverse user and interested in enhancing the security of your data, this announcement will be of particular interest to you. As of May 3, 2024, customers can now utilize a Customer-Managed Key (CMK) encrypted with an Azure Key Vault Managed HSM key to safeguard their data-at-rest.

While Microsoft's encryption keys are already strong, CMK encryption adds an extra layer of protection, allowing customers to manage and rotate their encryption keys at any time as well as to revoke Microsoft's access to sensitive information instantly. Administrators will be required to create the encryption key and grant it access to the required Power Platform Enterprise policy. Then, a Power Platform or Dynamics 365 service admin can apply the encryption key to the environment(s).
