Content Edits look different in the Catch Up Flyout on Word online

In a bid to enhance collaboration in Office documents, a new 'Catch Up' information flyout has been added by Microsoft to inform users about collaborative activity that has taken place in a file. This will display the activities that are directed at a particular user, such as mentions, tasks, and comment replies from collaborators in the shared file. The flyout will now be composed of two sections: 'Activities for you' and 'Changes in Document.'

The 'Changes in Document' section is located at the bottom of the flyout and contains a summary of the edits made to the document content since the last time the user opened the document. The changes update every time the user closes the document or refreshes the page, while the 'Activities for you' section listed above persists for up to 28 days or until dismissed. This update is expected to provide greater clarity about collaborative activity directed at a user in a document, as well as any content changes that the user has not yet seen.

There is no action required for users to avail themselves of this new feature, as the change will happen automatically. Microsoft plans to roll out this update from mid-May through late June.
