Microsoft 365 apps for Mac Suite Installer will include Microsoft Defender for individuals

Starting in September 2023, the Microsoft 365 apps for Mac Suite Installer will include a shim application for the Microsoft Defender for individuals app, allowing users to download the full version through this shim application. The Microsoft Defender for individuals app offers an easy-to-use security solution for individuals and families, safeguarding identities, data, and devices from online threats. It is exclusively available through a Microsoft 365 Personal or Family subscription. The consumer version of the enterprise application, Defender for Endpoint, it provides robust security for macOS. If an organization deploys Microsoft 365 apps for Mac through the suite installation package, it is suggested that they exclude the Microsoft Defender for individuals app from their deployment, though this will not affect existing installations. To prepare, no action is required unless the organization wants to exclude the app from their installation package, in which case they can follow the instructions provided by Microsoft.
