Microsoft Copilot Studio – Reassign an agent’s owner with PowerShell

Microsoft Copilot Studio – Reassign an agent’s owner with PowerShell

We are announcing the ability to reassign an agent’s owner with PowerShell in Microsoft Copilot Studio. This feature will reach general availability on June 30, 2025. How does this affect me? This feature allows effective management of agents even if the original owner leaves or changes roles, improves governance and compliance by ensuring all agents have a responsible owner, reduces the administrative burden on IT teams by streamlining the process of transferring responsibilities, and provides the flexibility needed to adapt to changes in team structures and responsibilities, supporting dynamic business environments. What action do I need to take? As the feature ensures business continuity and enhances security, there are some prerequisites for users to utilize the feature: The new owner must have a Copilot Studio license. The new owner must be an env member. Assigning a new owner for an agent will be done using a Powershell command (learn more). To be able to run the command, the admin needs to have one of the following roles from Microsoft Entra ID in order: Tenant admin, Power Platform administrator or Dynamics 365 Service Administrator. After an admin changes the owner of an agent, the new owner: Is granted access to all the agent’s components including delete permission. Will be automatically assigned with an Environment Maker security role for the environment where the agent exists. The previous owner will lose any access to the agent All other co-authors will not change. Message ID: MC1085991
