New file format support for SharePoint Online Content AI document translation includes Markdown, web archive, open formats, structured data, and localization formats. This update, rolling out in mid-July 2025, enables broader translation capabilities and reduces manual effort. No admin action is required. We are expanding the range of file formats supported by the Content AI document translation feature in SharePoint Online (formerly known as Microsoft Syntex). This update aligns with Azure Document Translation and enables new scenarios for translating technical, web, and structured data content. The following formats are now supported: Markdown files: .mdown, .mdtext, .mdtxt, .mdwn, .mkd, .mkdn Web archive formats: .mht, .mhtml Open formats: .odt (OpenDocument Text), .rmd (R Markdown) Structured data: .tab, .tsv Localization formats: .xlf (XLIFF) This message is associated with Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID 492984 When this will happen: General Availability (Worldwide): We will begin rolling out on mid-July 2025 and expect to complete by mid-July 2025. What you need to do to prepare: No admin action is required. The new format support will be available automatically in environments where Content AI Document Translation is enabled.
