Microsoft Teams: Search in Settings
Microsoft Teams will add a default-enabled search bar in the Settings pane by November 2025, allowing users to quickly find settings by category, section, or control names. No admin action is needed. Telemetry data on search usage will be collected without personal content. Microsoft Teams is introducing Search in Settings, a new capability that allows users to quickly locate specific settings using a search bar. This update improves discoverability and reduces friction by eliminating the need to manually browse through categories. The change is based on customer feedback requesting faster access to configuration options. When this will happen: Targeted Release: We will begin rolling out early November 2025 and expect to complete by early November 2025. General Availability (Production, GCC, GCCHigh, DoD): We will begin rolling out early November 2025 and expect to complete by early November 2025. How this affects your organization: Who is affected: All users of Microsoft Teams across Microsoft 365 Tenants. What will happen: A new search bar will appear at the top left of the Settings pane: View image in new tab Users can search by: Category names (such as Notifications, Devices) Section titles or subtitles within a category Control titles or descriptions (such as Show message previews, Enable dark mode) The feature is enabled by default. No admin configuration is required. Existing settings remain unchanged. What you can do to prepare: No action is required at this time. Compliance considerations: All data is sent as UserBI telemetry and does not include personal content. All other compliance considerations: Does the change store new customer data? Yes. A new telemetry event is sent each time a user: Finishes typing in the search box Clicks the “x” to dismiss typed text Clicks on a search result (includes setting ID and category) Receives a “no results” message No other compliance considerations identified, review as appropriate for your organization.
