Calls popout into a new window on the browser to support multi-tasking and collaboration during a meeting
Microsoft Teams for Web will introduce a Picture-in-Picture Call Monitor in October 2026, allowing users to manage meeting controls in a separate window while multitasking in other browser tabs. No admin action is needed; users must have supported browsers for this feature. What and Why: We are introducing a new Call Monitor experience in Microsoft Teams for Web that helps users stay connected to meetings while working in other browser tabs. When users move away from an active meeting tab, Teams can display key meeting controls in a separate Picture-in-Picture (PiP) window, making it easier to manage calls and meetings without returning to the meeting tab. This enhancement improves multitasking during meetings and helps users remain engaged while working elsewhere in their browser. Rollout Schedule: Targeted Release (Worldwide): Rollout will begin in early October 2026 and is expected to complete by early October 2026. General Availability (Worldwide): Rollout will begin in early October 2026 and is expected to complete by late October 2026. Impact on Your Organization: Who is affected: Users of Microsoft Teams for Web who join meetings in supported browsers. Platforms: Teams for Web. What will happen: Users will receive the new Picture-in-Picture (PiP) Call Monitor experience during Teams meetings. When users navigate away from the active meeting tab, Teams can display meeting controls in a separate PiP window. The PiP Call Monitor helps users remain connected to meetings while working elsewhere in their browser. The experience is available only in browsers that support the required browser capabilities. No changes are required to existing meeting or calling workflows. Action Required / Recommendations: No admin action is required before rollout. Ensure helpdesk and support staff are aware of the upcoming user experience change. Review internal training and support materials as needed. Confirm that users are running supported browser versions for Teams for Web. Review Teams for Web prerequisites and supported browsers in Microsoft Learn. Compliance Considerations: No compliance considerations identified, review as appropriate for your organization. Message ID: MC1462921
