Improved PDF preview in Outlook for iOS
Outlook for iOS will enhance PDF preview by supporting Microsoft Information Protection-labeled PDFs and adding a controls toolbar for zoom, navigation, and search. The update rolls out from July to September 2026, is enabled by default, requires no admin action, and maintains existing workflows. What and Why: We’re updating the PDF preview experience in Outlook for iOS. This change adds support for Microsoft Information Protection (MIP)–labeled PDFs and introduces a built-in controls toolbar to improve navigation and search when viewing PDF attachments. This message is associated with Roadmap ID 564970. Rollout Schedule: General Availability (Worldwide, GCC, GCC High, DoD): Rollout begins in early July 2026 and is expected to complete by early September 2026. Impact on Your Organization: Who is affected: All users who view PDF attachments in Outlook for iOS. Platforms/Services: Outlook for iOS (mobile) PDF attachment preview What will happen: Users can preview MIP-labeled (protected) PDF files directly in Outlook for iOS. A controls toolbar appears at the bottom of the PDF preview, enabling: Zoom in and out Page navigation Keyword search within the PDF The Open in Copilot button has moved to the More (…) menu in the upper-right corner. The feature is enabled by default. No changes are made to current admin configurations or user workflows beyond the enhanced preview experience. Action Required / Recommendations: No action is required. This feature is enabled automatically. Consider notifying end users about the improved PDF preview and new toolbar controls to reduce help desk inquiries. Update internal documentation or training materials if you reference Outlook mobile PDF behavior.
