Microsoft Teams: Enhanced file filtering in channel Shared tabs
Microsoft Teams now offers enhanced file filtering in the channel Shared tab, allowing users to filter files by type and media content in both All Documents and In Messages views. This update improves file discovery without requiring admin action and is available worldwide. What and Why: Microsoft is enhancing file discovery within Microsoft Teams channels by adding new filtering capabilities to the Shared tab. This update responds directly to customer feedback requesting easier ways to locate channel files and message attachments. The new filters improve productivity by helping users quickly find relevant content based on file type and media content, reducing time spent searching across channel resources. Rollout Schedule: Worldwide, GCC, GCC High, DoD: Available now Impact on Your Organization: Who is affected: All Microsoft 365 users who access files in Teams channels. Platforms/Services: Microsoft Teams desktop and web. What will happen: The In Messages experience will be presented as a separate view alongside All Documents. Users will be able to filter channel files by file type within the All Documents view. Users will be able to filter files by file type within the In Messages view. A new Media filter will be available within the In Messages view. The feature will be enabled automatically as part of the service update. No policy or configuration changes are required. Existing file permissions and access controls remain unchanged. Action Required/Recommendations: No administrative action is required. Recommended actions: Review internal Teams training and documentation for file management workflows. Notify helpdesk and support teams of the updated experience. Communicate the change to users before rollout completion. Update any internal screenshots or user guides that reference the current Shared tab experience.
