M365 Copilot Agent now support multiple users
Microsoft 365 Copilot agents now support multiple owners, enabling collaborative management and reducing dependency on a single creator. This update, rolling out worldwide in August 2026, allows equal editing permissions for all owners, improved sharing controls, and organization-wide agent publishing, with some limitations on group ownership. What and Why We’re introducing support for multiple owners for Microsoft 365 Copilot declarative agents. Previously, an agent could have only a single owner (the creator). With this update, multiple individuals can be assigned ownership of an agent, enabling teams to collaboratively manage, maintain, and update agents. This enhancement helps organizations: Reduce dependency on a single creator. Improve business continuity when an owner changes roles or leaves the organization. Enable collaborative authoring and maintenance of agents. Better manage who can edit an agent versus who can only chat with it. Rollout Schedule General Availability (Worldwide): Rollout begins: Early August 2026 Expected completion: Mid-August 2026 Impact on Your Organization Who is affected Organizations using Microsoft 365 Copilot declarative agents. Current and future agent owners. Users who access shared Copilot agents. Platforms/Services Microsoft 365 Copilot Copilot Agents What will happen Agents can have multiple owners instead of a single owner. All owners have equal permissions to edit, manage, and share the agent. There is no primary or secondary owner designation. A redesigned sharing experience allows users to: Add owners and chat users. Assign sharing roles. Copy sharing links. Send notifications from a single interface. Users can send email notifications when granting access to owners or chat users. Organizations can share agents with the entire organization. Agents shared organization-wide will be published to the agent store, allowing all users in the tenant to discover and use them. Known limitation Microsoft 365 groups and security groups cannot be assigned as agent owners. Groups can be granted chat permissions only. To grant editing and management permissions, individual users must be added as owners. Action Required / Recommendations No administrative action is required before rollout. We recommend that administrators: Review their organization’s governance model for Microsoft 365 Copilot agents. Identify business-critical agents that would benefit from multiple owners. Communicate the […]
