Microsoft 365 Copilot: Retirement of Sora video generation experience (Frontier)
The Sora video generation experience in the Frontier program will retire between mid and late June 2026. Users will lose access to create new videos, but existing videos remain available. No action is required; a new video experience is in development and updates will follow. What and Why: We’re retiring the current Sora video generation experience (Sora 2) available through the Frontier program as part of our ongoing investment in next-generation video capabilities. This transition enables improved scalability, performance, and future innovation in Copilot-powered video creation. A new video experience is in development and will be communicated when available. Rollout Schedule: Retirement begins mid-June 2026 and completes by late June 2026. Impact on Your Organization: Who is affected: Organizations participating in the Frontier program with access to the Sora video generation experience Platforms/Services: Frontier program (Sora video experience in Copilot Create) What will happen: The current Sora experience in Frontier will be retired Users will no longer be able to access or generate new videos using Sora after retirement completion Previously generated videos will remain accessible to users No new activations or deployments of Sora in Frontier will be supported This change impacts only the Frontier program and does not affect other Microsoft 365 services Action Required/Recommendations: No action is required. Inform stakeholders about the retirement of Sora in the Frontier program Review any internal dependencies on the Sora video generation experience Monitor Message center communications for updates on the replacement video model Compliance considerations: No compliance considerations identified, review as appropriate for your organization.
