New file download manager in Teams
Microsoft Teams will introduce a new file download manager starting June 2026, with notifications auto-dismissing after about 4 seconds. Users can still open or locate files easily. The update applies to all users by default, requires no action, and does not change file permissions or security. Introduction We’re introducing a new file download manager experience in Microsoft Teams to streamline file downloads and reduce on-screen interruptions. This update simplifies download notifications while still making it easy for users to find downloaded files after the download completes. This message is associated with Roadmap ID 560815. When this will happen: Targeted Release: We will begin rolling out in early June 2026 and expect to complete by mid-June 2026. General Availability (Worldwide): We will begin rolling out in mid-June 2026 and expect to complete by late June 2026. How this affects your organization: Who is affected: All users downloading files in Microsoft Teams (desktop and web) All tenants worldwide What will happen: File download notifications in Teams will automatically dismiss after approximately 4 seconds. Users will have an option to open or locate downloaded files after the download completes. The experience is enabled by default. Existing file permissions, storage locations, and security controls remain unchanged. What you can do to prepare: No action is required. Optionally, inform helpdesk or support teams about the updated download behavior to reduce user questions. Update internal documentation if it references the Teams file download experience.
