SharePoint site analytics: OneNote usage included in site usage reports

SharePoint site analytics will include OneNote file usage, increasing reported site metrics like unique viewers and visits. Popular content reports will show frequently accessed OneNote files. The update rolls out worldwide from mid-January to mid-February 2026, requires no admin changes, and may raise site usage numbers. Introduction We’re enhancing SharePoint site analytics to include usage data from OneNote files (.one). This update provides a more complete view of site engagement by incorporating OneNote activity into metrics such as Unique viewers and site visits. Popular content reporting will also reflect heavily used OneNote files. This message is associated with Roadmap ID 537285. When this will happen: General Availability (Worldwide): Rollout begins mid-January 2026 and is expected to complete by mid-February 2026. How this affects your organization: Who is affected: Admins and users who monitor SharePoint site analytics. What will happen: Expect an increase in reported site usage metrics, including unique viewers and site visits, as OneNote file activity will now be included. View image in new tab The Popular content section in site analytics will display OneNote files if they are among the most accessed in the last 7 days.
