Microsoft is retiring SharePoint Add-Ins in favor of SharePoint Framework (SPFx), which enables writing applications for Microsoft SharePoint, Viva Connections, and Microsoft Teams. Starting from November 1st, 2024, new tenants will not be able to use SharePoint Add-Ins anymore. The ability to use SharePoint Add-Ins for existing tenants will be removed from April 2nd, 2026. Until then, installation of SharePoint Add-Ins from a private tenant catalog is still possible.
Organizations that use SharePoint Add-Ins need to assess the impact and prepare by porting their customizations to SharePoint Framework (SPFx) solutions. Admins can use the Microsoft 365 Assessment tool to scan their tenants for SharePoint Add-In usage and review the guidance for migrating. It is recommended for Add-In users and developers to be notified, user training updated, and help desk prepared.
