Microsoft Planner: New Planner usage report in the Microsoft 365 admin center

A new Planner usage report in the Microsoft 365 admin center, launching September 2026, provides admins with tenant-level and user-level Planner activity data, including active users and usage trends for basic and premium plans. It includes identifiable user info, requires no action, and supports compliance and reporting needs. We’re introducing a new Planner usage report in the Microsoft 365 admin center. This report provides administrators with visibility into how Planner is being used across their organization, including tenant-level active user metrics and user-level activity details. The new report helps administrators better understand Planner adoption and engagement, support reporting needs, and identify usage trends across both Planner basic and premium plans. Rollout schedule General Availability (Worldwide, GCC, GCC High, DoD): Beginning in early September 2026 and expected to complete in early September 2026 Impact on your organization Who is affected Administrators with permissions to view Microsoft 365 usage reports Platforms and services Microsoft Planner Microsoft 365 admin center Microsoft 365 usage reports What will happen Before this rollout, Planner usage data was not available in Microsoft 365 admin center usage reports. After rollout, eligible administrators can access a new report at: Microsoft 365 admin center > Reports > Usage > Planner The report includes: Total unique users: The number of distinct users active in Planner during the selected reporting period, including a daily active users trend chart. Usage details: A user-level table showing username, active days, and last activity date. Administrators can view data for the previous 7, 28, 90, or 180 days and export report data to CSV. A user is considered active when they perform at least one intentional action in Planner, such as creating or editing a task or opening the Planner application. Background refresh activity is not included in usage calculations. Usage metrics include activity across both Planner basic plans and Planner premium plans. The user-level table displays all users who were active in Planner during the previous 180 days.
