Microsoft Teams Rooms on Windows and Android will support proximity join for attendees in Teams events, enabling quick connection to nearby room systems. This feature, rolling out worldwide from late September to early October 2026, requires no action and simplifies joining town halls, webinars, and meetings. What and Why: We are introducing attendee proximity join for Microsoft Teams Rooms on Windows and Android, enabling users to quickly and effortlessly connect to a nearby room system when joining Microsoft Teams events, including town halls, webinars, and structured meetings. This enhancement simplifies the meeting join experience and helps users connect to the appropriate room device with fewer steps. Rollout Schedule: General Availability (Worldwide, GCC, GCC High): Rollout will begin in late September 2026 and is expected to complete by early October 2026. Impact on Your Organization: Who is affected: Users who leverage Microsoft Teams Rooms on Windows or Android to join Teams events. Platforms and Services: Microsoft Teams Rooms on Windows Microsoft Teams Rooms on Android Microsoft Teams events, including town halls and webinars What will happen: Users will be able to use proximity join to connect to nearby Microsoft Teams Rooms when joining Teams events. The feature provides a faster and more seamless method for joining supported Teams events from room systems. This functionality will be available by default as part of the Microsoft Teams Rooms experience. Action Required / Recommendations: No action is required to enable this feature. It will become available automatically during the rollout.
