Microsoft Teams: Communicator app enters Public Preview
Communicator, a new Microsoft Teams app for creating and managing targeted organizational announcements with acknowledgment tracking, enters Public Preview from mid-August 2026 to mid-January 2027. Administrators should prepare by installing the app and bot, adjusting policies, and updating training materials. What and why: We are introducing Communicator, a new Microsoft Teams app that enables designated communicators to create, publish, and manage organizational announcements and operational communications at scale. Communicator is designed for scenarios such as organizational announcements, training updates, compliance notifications, safety alerts, store and field operations updates, and other action-oriented communications. With Communicator, organizations can deliver targeted communications directly in Microsoft Teams, request acknowledgments or required actions, and monitor message delivery and acknowledgment status through built-in reporting capabilities. Rollout schedule: Public Preview (Worldwide): Rollout begins mid-August 2026 and is expected to complete by mid-January 2027. General Availability (Worldwide): Rollout begins mid-August 2026 and is expected to complete by late January 2027. Impact on your organization: Who is affected: Microsoft Teams administrators. Users designated to create and send organizational communications. Users and Teams channels that receive organizational communications. Platforms: Microsoft Teams After rollout, designated communicators will be able to: Create and publish targeted announcements to individuals and Teams channels. Deliver operational communications directly within Microsoft Teams. Include required actions and acknowledgment workflows in communications. Track delivery status and message acknowledgments through built-in reporting capabilities. Recipients will receive announcements and operational communications directly within Teams. Action required / Recommendations: To prepare for this rollout, we recommend that administrators: Install and make the Communicator app available to users who will create and send announcements. Ensure the Communicator Bot is installed and available for users and Teams channels that will receive communications. Review Teams app permission policies, app setup policies, and app availability settings to ensure the appropriate users have access to the correct Communicator experiences. Update internal documentation and training materials for users responsible for organizational communications. Additional documentation will be provided before General Availability.
