D365 CRM Entity Relationships

D365 CRM Entity Relationships

In this post, we delve into the different types of entity relationships in Microsoft Dynamics 365 CRM and offer insights into how they work. Understanding the Type of behavior of the relationships between two entities is crucial in predicting the impact of record deletion on the related records.

There are two primary types of relationships between entities - Referential and Parental. For Referential relationships with Remove Link on Delete, no action taken on one record affects the other. But in Referential relationships with Restrict Delete, the parent record cannot be deleted while the child record exists. Parental relationships establish a tight link between records such that actions taken on a parent record are also applied to related child table records.

Custom relationships allow for the customization of behavior for various actions such as assigning, deleting, and re-parenting. However, these custom behaviors do not apply to many-to-many relationships.

If you're interested in learning more about entity relationships in Dynamics 365 CRM, this post is a valuable resource to help you gain a deeper understanding of the nuances of this intricate system.
