Microsoft Teams: Impersonation protection for Teams meetings
Microsoft Teams will roll out impersonation protection for meetings in December 2026, displaying warnings and risk indicators to help users identify deceptive participants. No admin action is needed, but admins should inform users and security teams. This feature enhances security by highlighting potential impersonation attempts. What and Why: Impersonation protection for Teams meetings helps users identify potentially deceptive participants and meeting organizers. When Teams detects a potential impersonation attempt, it surfaces warnings and risk indicators to help users recognize suspicious identities and make more informed decisions when joining or participating in a meeting. Rollout Schedule: General Availability (Worldwide): We will begin rolling out in mid-December 2026 and expect to complete by late December 2026. Impact on Your Organization: Meeting Impersonation Protection provides users with additional context to determine whether the people they interact with in Microsoft Teams meetings are who they claim to be. By surfacing warnings and risk indicators when potential impersonation is detected, Teams helps users recognize suspicious identities earlier and make safer decisions. Action Required/Recommendations: No immediate admin action is required. Admins should familiarize themselves with the new protection experience and communicate the change to users and security teams as appropriate. Compliance considerations: Question Answer Does the change introduce or modify security controls? Yes. The feature surfaces meeting impersonation warnings and risk indicators to help users make safer meeting decisions. Message ID: MC1530613
