Microsoft Entra ID Governance for government

Microsoft Entra ID Governance for government

I’m pleased to announce that as of November 1, 2024, Microsoft Entra ID Governance is available for federal agencies, state and local governments, and government contractors in the US Government community cloud (GCC), GCC-High, and Department of Defense cloud environments. Entra ID Governance launched for commercial customers on July 1, 2023, and due to strong demand, we expanded to educational (EDU) and frontline worker (FLW) customers earlier this year. Now, we’ve made the same Entra ID Governance product available for government customers.

Entra ID Governance helps organizations ensure that the right people have the right access to the right apps and resources, at the right time. Public organizations like the Rijksmuseum use Entra ID Governance to reduce administrative burdens, improve the user experience, and allocate more time to constituents by decreasing time spent managing user access.

Just as it does for commercial, educational, and frontline customers, Entra ID Governance helps government organizations comply with requirements and follow Zero Trust principles. Providing a deeper dive into those principles, KuppingerCole recently published an Executive View whitepaper that includes an overview of identity governance scenarios and a review of Entra ID Governance.

As next steps, we encourage eligible organizations to:

  • Learn more at https://aka.ms/AboutEntraIDGovernance
  • Walk through the admin experiences at https://aka.ms/EntraIDGovGuides
  • Set up a trial by visiting https://aka.ms/EntraTrialsPage, if you already have a tenant in GCC, GCC-H, or DoD clouds, or by contacting your Microsoft account team.
  • Purchase licenses. Entra ID Governance for government customers is available for GCC, GCON (government contractors), GCC-High, and DoD clouds through Volume Licensing; in addition, customers in GCC can purchase via the web, or through Microsoft licensing partners.
