Microsoft Teams: New search experience for cloud files in the file attach picker

Microsoft Teams: New search experience for cloud files in the file attach picker

Microsoft Teams will enable searching for cloud files directly in the attach file picker, improving quick sharing in chats and channels. This rollout starts June 2026 for Windows, Mac, and web users, showing only files users have permission to access, with no changes to sharing policies. Introduction Microsoft Teams is improving the quick sharing experience by enabling search for cloud files directly within the attach file picker. This helps users find and attach the right files more quickly when sharing in chats and channels. This message applies to Teams for Windows desktop, Teams for Mac desktop, and Teams for the web. It is associated with Roadmap ID 560814. When this will happen: Targeted Release (Worldwide): Rollout begins early June 2026 and is expected to complete late June 2026. General Availability (Worldwide): Rollout begins mid-June 2026 and is expected to complete late June 2026. How this affects your organization: Who is affected: Users who share and attach files in Microsoft Teams chats and channels using the quick sharing (Attach) experience. Organizations that use cloud files available through Microsoft 365 (for example, OneDrive and SharePoint) in Teams. What will happen: Users will be able to search for cloud files directly in the attach file picker during the quick sharing experience. The change reduces time spent browsing folders during file attachment. Users will only see files they already have permission to access. No changes are expected to existing file sharing permissions or policies. What you can do to prepare: No action is required. Optional: Inform your helpdesk that users may notice a new search capability when attaching cloud files in Teams. Optional: Update internal documentation or training materials related to sharing and attaching files in Teams. Compliance considerations: Question Explanation Does the change alter how existing customer data is processed, stored, or accessed (e.g. documents, emails, chats, etc.), if so how and to what extent? This update provides a new in-product method to discover and access existing cloud files by enabling search within the Teams attach file picker; results are permission-trimmed so users only find files they can already access.
