Microsoft Teams Rooms on Android: room users can change the app language
Teams Rooms on Android will allow users to temporarily change the app language per session from the console, aligning with Windows experience. This feature rolls out from June to October 2026 with app version 2.12.0+, resets after restart, requires no admin action, and does not affect system settings. What and why: Teams Rooms on Android users will soon be able to temporarily change the display language of the Teams app directly from the room console, without requiring administrator involvement. This update brings Teams Rooms on Android in line with the existing Teams Rooms on Windows experience and supports organizations that operate in multilingual environments or have regional language requirements. The language selection applies only to the current session. When the Teams Rooms app restarts, it automatically returns to the room’s configured default language, ensuring the device is not left in an unexpected language for the next user. Rollout schedule: Targeted Release (Worldwide): Rollout begins in late June 2026 and is expected to complete by late September 2026. General Availability (Worldwide): Rollout begins in early September 2026 and is expected to complete by late October 2026. Impact on your organization: This feature will be available by default for Teams Rooms on Android devices running Teams Rooms app version 2.12.0 or later. A new Language option will appear on the Teams Rooms console home screen. Selecting the option opens a list of available Teams app languages. After a language is selected, the Teams Rooms app reloads and briefly displays the Teams curtain before returning in the chosen language. The language choice is session-scoped and automatically resets to the room’s configured default language the next time the Teams Rooms app restarts. User language selections do not permanently override administrator-configured language settings. The change applies only to the Teams Rooms app and does not affect the device operating system, peripherals, keyboard language, or administrative settings. Action required / Recommendations: No admin action is required. The feature will be enabled automatically when eligible devices update to Teams Rooms on Android app version 2.12.0 or later. We recommend that administrators: Confirm that Teams Rooms on Android […]
