Updated Photos experience on Windows 11

Windows 11 will receive an updated Photos app starting mid-October 2026, enhancing browsing, organizing, and viewing local and OneDrive photos. Existing app management and OneDrive policies remain effective. Organizations should review app-blocking rules and inform help desks; no new compliance issues are expected. What and Why: We’re introducing an updated Photos experience on Windows 11 to help people browse, organize, and find photos and videos across their PC and OneDrive. If you use AppLocker packaged-app rules to block Microsoft Photos, update those rules to include the package Microsoft.OneDrive.Photos if you intend to keep blocking it. DisablePersonalSync prevents personal OneDrive account sign-in in Photos. DisableNucleusSync prevents the use of any OneDrive account in Photos. These policies restrict OneDrive functionality in Photos; they do not prevent people from using the app with local content. Action Required/Recommendations: For most organizations, no new or immediate configuration is required. Review your existing Windows app-management and OneDrive policies, especially rules that intentionally block or remove Photos. If you use AppLocker to block Photos, […]
