Microsoft 365 Copilot: Use Copilot AI Actions with OneDrive files in File Explorer
Microsoft 365 Copilot AI Actions will be integrated into Windows File Explorer for OneDrive files, allowing users to summarize documents and generate FAQs via a context menu. This feature requires a Copilot license, rolls out from late September 2025 to March 2026, and needs no admin setup. Introduction: We’re bringing the power of Microsoft Copilot AI Actions directly into your daily file management experience in Windows. This update enables users to interact with Copilot AI Actions in File Explorer to summarize documents and generate frequently asked questions about OneDrive files—streamlining productivity and enhancing file insights. A Microsoft 365 Copilot license is required to access this feature. When this will happen: General Availability (Worldwide, GCC, GCC High, DoD):Rollout will begin in late September 2025 and is expected to complete by late March 2026. How this affects your organization: Who is affected:All users of OneDrive on Windows with access to Microsoft 365 Copilot. What will happen: Users will be able to select a file in File Explorer, right-click to open the context menu, and access Copilot AI Actions via a new AI Actions submenu: View image in new tab Available actions include summarizing documents and generating frequently asked questions. No admin configuration is required to enable this feature. Feature is available by default for eligible users with Copilot access. What you can do to prepare: Inform end users about the new Copilot AI Actions available in File Explorer. Update internal documentation if you provide guidance on file management or Copilot usage.
