Microsoft Purview | Information Protection: Auto-labeling scale increase for SharePoint and OneDrive

Microsoft Purview | Information Protection: Auto-labeling scale increase for SharePoint and OneDrive

Microsoft Purview Information Protection will increase auto-labeling capacity for SharePoint and OneDrive from 100,000 to 500,000 files per tenant per day starting September-October 2026. This enables faster, broader content labeling without policy changes, enhancing data protection and compliance monitoring. No action required. We’re increasing the maximum auto-labeling capacity for Microsoft Purview Information Protection in SharePoint and OneDrive from 100,000 files to 500,000 files per tenant per day. This enhancement enables organizations to automatically label and protect a larger volume of existing content more quickly, helping reduce labeling gaps across data stored in SharePoint and OneDrive. By applying sensitivity labels and associated protection settings to more files each day, organizations can strengthen their information protection posture and better prepare their data estate for Microsoft 365 Copilot. This message is associated with Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID 567890. Existing active server-side auto-labeling policies targeting SharePoint and OneDrive will automatically benefit from the increased capacity. More content can be evaluated, labeled, and protected each day without requiring policy changes. No change to label configuration, policy behavior, or user experience is expected as part of this update. Action required and recommendations No action is required. To maximize the benefit of the increased capacity, we recommend that administrators: Create an auto-labeling policy for SharePoint and/or OneDrive in simulation mode. Review simulation results after processing completes. Enable the policy if the results meet your organization’s requirements.
