Microsoft Purview | Data Loss Prevention: Turning on DLP analytics

Microsoft Purview offers a powerful Data Loss Prevention (DLP) analytics feature that enables you to mitigate data protection obstacles, issues, policies, and posture in your organization in just a few simple steps. With the help of intelligent Purview features, administrators can explore data loss prevention challenges and solve them with ease. Once Analytics is turned on, reviewers can find generated recommendations each week on the DLP overview page.

The analytics feature provides reports on top risks, blind spots, and policy improvement opportunities based on past 30-day data. It generates recommendations that align with recommended industry practices, making it easier for you to prioritize and take the necessary action. The feature leverages Purview's intelligent capabilities to analyze logs and telemetry like classification, activity, user profile, policy configuration, alerts, and incident information to generate insightful recommendations.

To turn on analytics, simply navigate to the "Data Loss Prevention" option on the left navigation menu in Purview and select "Overview." From this menu, you can easily turn on analytics by following a few simple steps. Note that it may take up to seven days to generate recommendations after turning on the analytics feature. Prioritized cards are generated at the end of these seven days, showing the top risks that need mitigation, along with policy improvement opportunities.

The side pane provides more details on risks found, and you can use "View Activities" to review supporting evidence. The preconfigured policy in the side pane also offers the right configurations to mitigate risk, but you can create a new policy or update the preconfigured policy with a few clicks. With this feature, you can enjoy easy, stress-free data loss prevention and protection, ensuring smooth business operations.

This feature is currently in "Public Preview," with the rollout expected to begin in mid-February 2024 and complete by late February 2024.
