Microsoft Defender for Office 365: Evaluations in audit mode

Microsoft Defender for Office 365 is introducing new capabilities to its audit mode, which is used to assess the system through a trial or a subscription that includes Defender for Office 365 Plan 2. One of the new capabilities includes the ability for security administrators to turn on/off specific evaluation policies. Secondly, organizations can now evaluate domain and user impersonation protection in audit mode, where no action will be taken on messages. Lastly, if an organization's MX is pointed to a third-party email filtering provider, it can evaluate spoof filtering in Defender for Office 365 in audit mode without any actions being taken on the messages, such as sending them to junk/quarantine. These new capabilities aim to provide more comprehensive evaluations of Defender for Office 365 in audit mode.

For those interested in this feature, it is set to be available in January 2023 through a General Availability Release. Overall, these new audit mode features aim to improve the functionality of Microsoft Defender for Office 365, making it a more comprehensive platform for evaluating Office 365 security.
