Microsoft 365 Compliance Center update: eDiscovery PowerShell cmdlet supporting certificate-based authentication (CBA)
Microsoft 365 Compliance Center is undergoing an update that affects eDiscovery PowerShell Cmdlets. Basic authentication is no longer supported and has been retired, and as a result, eDiscovery scripts that previously relied on usernames and passwords stored in a local file/vault will need to be updated. The new method of authentication is certificate-based authentication (CBA), which requires changes to workflow and relevant documentation. It is essential to assess if these changes will affect your organization's eDiscovery workflow, update internal documentation and script authentication, and provide relevant training to all eDiscovery users in your organization. This update is associated with Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID 106112, and basic authentication will be retired by the end of May 2023 for any tenants that had an exception. Check out Microsoft Learn's App-only authentication in Exchange Online PowerShell and Security & Compliance PowerShell for support on CBA.
