Microsoft Purview compliance portal: Insider Risk Management – Exfiltration of business-sensitive data to free public domain emails

Microsoft has announced an update to their Purview insider risk management system, which aims to provide additional insight alerts to prevent the exfiltration of business-sensitive data to free public domain emails. By detecting and flagging common domains used for public email accounts, the system can now identify when data is being leaked from a work email account, potentially leading to a data security incident. Insider Risk Management is designed to correlate various signals to identify potential malicious or inadvertent insider risks, such as IP theft, data leakage, and security violations. Customers can create policies based on their own internal policies, governance, and organizational requirements. Additionally, the system has been built with privacy in mind, with pseudonymized users by default and measures in place to ensure user-level privacy. This update is currently in preview release mode but is set to be released in June CY2024.
