Announcing the Public Preview of Azure Change Analysis New Portal Experience

Announcing the Public Preview of Azure Change Analysis New Portal Experience

Change Analysis

Viewing changes to your Azure resources just became easier! With Azure Resource Graph’s Change Analysis, you can now view all your resource changes across all your tenants and subscriptions in the Azure Portal. Resources are at the heart of this new experience. It also gives you an onboarding-free experience, tenant-wide querying rather than selecting subscriptions, more scalable and extensive filtering capabilities, change actor information and improved accuracy.

What’s new: Azure Portal UX
This added functionality is now in public preview.
  • The ability to view changes that are happening on your resources in the Azure Portal
    • Filter between Creates/Updates/Deletes, Subscriptions, Resource Groups, Time Span
    • Group by Subscription, Resource Group, Type, Resource, Change Type, Client Type, Changed By, Operation, Changed By Type and Correlation ID
    • Change Actor: Who made the change and how a change was made
Try it out
You can try it out by heading to the All Resources page in the Azure Portal under the azure services section and then clicking on the “Changed Resources” button, or you can search for Change Analysis in the search bar of the Azure Portal then clicking on Change Analysis (Preview).

FAQ
How do I use Change Analysis?
Change Analysis can be used by querying the resourcechanges,  resourcecontainterchanges or healthresources tables in Azure Resource Graph, such as with Azure Resource Graph Explorer in the Azure Portal, through the Azure Resource Graph APIs and now through the Change Analysis Preview blade in the Azure Portal. More information can be found here: Get resource changes - Azure Resource Graph | Microsoft Learn.

What resources are included?
You can try it out by querying the “resourcechanges” or “resourcecontainerchanges” tables in Azure Resource Graph. You can find more information on what resources are included in Change analysis here Supported Azure Resource Manager resource types - Azure Resource Graph | Microsoft Learn
What does unknown mean?
Unknown is displayed when the change happened on a client that is unrecognized .

Why are some of the changedBy values unspecified?
Unspecified is displayed when the resource is missing changedByType values and could be missing for either Creates or Updates. Some resources in the resourcechanges tables are not fully covered yet in the change actor functionality. This could be caused by a resource that has been affected by a system change or the RP needs to first send us the Who/How information.  You may also see an increase in Unspecified values for these types:
  • virtualmachines
  • virtualmachinescalesets
  • publicipaddresses
  • disks
  • networkinterfaces
