Changes to the Website tab in the new Teams client
Microsoft Teams has announced that starting from April 2024, the ability to load websites inside the new Teams client using the Website tab will be retired. Instead, website links will be opened in a new browser tab in order to align with best practices in web security and privacy, and to improve the reliability of websites opened through this feature. Users will no longer be able to view websites inside the new Teams desktop and web clients when using the Website tab and existing Website tabs will also be opened in a new browser tab. However, this change will not impact EDU tenants. Users are encouraged to pin corresponding app tabs for viewing web content inside the Teams client. This change is set to be rolled out in April 2024.
This change will not affect the Teams mobile apps. Organizations are advised to prepare for this change by encouraging users to utilize app tabs instead of pinning URLs as website tabs.
The announcement was made via the M365 Admin website, and more information is available on the provided link.
