Decision Makers Guide to Microsoft Fabric - Hedging your Fabric Bet
In this interview, Principal & Director of Product Development at Milliman, Tom Peplow, discusses his assessment of Microsoft Fabric with Ian Griffiths & Ed Freeman from Endjin. Milliman has been using Azure since 2010, building a custom actuarial solution that includes big data and big compute to handle petabyte-scale data processing. Now they are evaluating whether Fabric can solve their problems more efficiently than their current method. Tom has been impressed by Microsoft's Digital Transformation case study for their internal Finance Team, which demonstrates the kinds of productivity gains and improvements he wants for his customers, and believes Fabric can provide similar outcomes. However, there is also apprehension on the IT side that this transformation could lead to historic headaches, similar to Microsoft Access. Tom believes that standards play a crucial role, and that openness is critical.
The interview is divided into various chapters in which Tom and the Endjin team delve into the benefits of Fabric, the costs and benefits of change, the technology used in Fabric, the end-user experience and how it relates to Power BI, the Open Table Format, the focus on end-users, apprehension around Fabric, guard rails for end-users, DevOps & FinOps, and version control. If you're a strategic decision-maker looking to simplify your portfolio, deliver better results for your stakeholders, or gain a competitive edge, the insights gained by Tom in this interview could help.
