Administration of Microsoft 365 in the new era of AI
Today we introduced Microsoft 365 Copilot, which combines the power of large language models with your data in Microsoft Graph and Microsoft 365 apps to turn words into the most powerful productivity tool on the planet.
Meeting Microsoft’s standards for Data Security and Privacy
The new Copilot experiences do not change Microsoft’s commitment and principles for data security and privacy. Copilot is integrated into Microsoft 365 and automatically inherits all your company’s valuable security, compliance, and privacy policies and processes. Whether you are working with our AI solutions in Azure, Microsoft 365, Dynamics 365, the Power Platform, or other Microsoft cloud services, we have designed these experiences with compliance, privacy, and security at the core.
Delivering responsible AI you can trust
We have built-in controls that monitor for inappropriate uses. We have mitigations in place, both for the inputting of prompts and filtering generated content in accordance with the guidelines described in our published Code of Conduct. We have implemented these guardrails as part of our commitment to developing and deploying AI responsibly.
Getting started with Copilot
We're excited about how Copilot will transform productivity and help to improve how we all create and work together. These capabilities are evolving at an incredible pace. We’re testing Copilot with a small group of customers to get feedback and improve our models as we scale.
During the initial limited Private Preview, Copilot services will be available by invite only. As these services become more broadly available, we will be providing admins with technical documentation about available controls and policies. Be sure to stay connected in the Microsoft 365 community for future updates.
Copilot FAQs
- How will Microsoft 365 Copilot services handle and protect my sensitive data and information?
The permissions model within your Microsoft 365 tenant will ensure that data will not unintentionally leak between users and groups. Copilot presents only data that each individual can access using the same underlying controls for data access used in other Microsoft 365 services. Additionally, we do not use customer data to train or improve the large language models used to generate content. You can review Microsoft’s privacy policy and service documentation for more information. - Where can I learn more about Microsoft’s commitment to Responsible AI?
As AI is poised to transform our lives, we must collectively define new rules, norms, and practices for the use and impact of this technology. Microsoft has been on a Responsible AI journey since 2017, when we defined our principles and approach to ensuring this technology is used in a way that is driven by ethical principles that put people first. Read more about Microsoft's framework for building AI systems responsibly, the ethical principles that guide us, and the tooling and capabilities we’ve created to help customers use AI responsibly. - What level of controls will an admin have to manage these new features?
We will be providing admins with technical documentation about available controls and policies prior to the broader roll out of these AI features. - Can users in my organization sign up for the new AI features?
Today we are announcing the beginning of our journey to reinvent how people work. As part of that we are starting with a limited Private Preview and will provide additional details to our customers about broader availability of these features at a future date. - How do I know when these new features are becoming available to users in my organization? When will technical admins get more information about how to manage the services?
We will provide admins with an advance notice and all necessary technical information prior to any of these new features becoming available to any Azure Active Directory users in your organizations. You can also check the Microsoft 365 Roadmap for the latest information. - Will the features announced today be available for the U.S. Government customers?
At this point we do not have plans to announce when and how these experiences may be available to the U.S. Government cloud customers. - Are the features announced today available for education customers?
The features announced today are not available to education customers at this time. We are listening to feedback and collaborating with the education community to further fine-tune AI powered experiences in educational scenarios. - Will I need to ensure that additional network service endpoints or protocols are allowed in order to access Copilot services?
As we get closer to broader availability, endpoint documentation will be added to the guidance for Office 365 URLs and IP address ranges.
