In this episode of Afternoon Cyber Tea, Ann Johnson is joined by AJ Yawn, Co-Founder and CEO at ByteChek, and a Founding Board Member of the National Association of Black Compliance and Risk Management Professionals, to discuss the challenge of breaking into the cybersecurity industry. While there are over 700,000 open cybersecurity jobs in the US alone, many still find it difficult to make headway in the industry.
Ann and AJ discuss the need to diversify talent pools, the qualities that lead to successful careers in cybersecurity, essential courses and certifications to consider, and the role of education in preparing people for careers in the field. They also delve into why employers often have high entry bars for their cybersecurity programs and highlight programs and communities that aspiring cybersecurity professionals should be aware of.
Overall, the episode provides insightful tips for individuals trying to get into the cyber industry and showcases the opportunities available for a fulfilling and lucrative career in cybersecurity.
