Dynamics 365 Field Service : Install the mobile app

In today's fast-paced service landscape, field technicians need real-time access to customer data, work orders, asset information, and navigation tools. Microsoft Dynamics 365 Field Service bridges this gap with its dedicated Field Service Mobile app, enabling seamless operations from any location.

This blog walks you through how to install and set up the Dynamics 365 Field Service mobile app, ensuring your frontline staff stays connected, efficient, and productive.

What is the Field Service Mobile App?

The Field Service Mobile app is a cross-platform application (iOS, Android, and Windows) designed for frontline technicians. It allows them to:

  •  View assigned work orders and appointments
  •  Update service tasks, asset details, and job statuses
  •  Capture photos and customer signatures
  •  Use offline mode when there's no internet
  •  Navigate to service locations

It is built on Power Platform’s Power Apps technology, making it highly customizable.

Prerequisites

Before installing the app, make sure the following are in place:

1. Microsoft Dynamics 365 Field Service license

2. User has appropriate security roles, such as:

  • Field Service – Resource
  • Field Service – Mobile User

3. Environment is provisioned and Field Service is installed

4. Mobile project is published via Power Apps if you're using a customized version

5. Internet access for downloading and initial login

Step-by-Step Installation Guide

Step 1: Download the App

On Android:

  •  Open Google Play Store
  •  Search: `Field Service (Dynamics 365)`
  •  Tap “Install”

On iOS:

  •  Open App Store
  •  Search: `Field Service (Dynamics 365)`
  •  Tap “Get”

Note: Do not confuse it with the older “Field Service Mobile (2017)” version.

Step 2: Open and Sign In

  •  Open the app after installation.
  •  Enter your work email and tap Next.
  •  Sign in using your Microsoft 365 (Azure AD) credentials.
  •  Select the correct environment (if you have multiple).

Step 3: Select the Mobile App Project (Power App)

Depending on how your organization has set up the app, you’ll either:

  •  Land directly in the Field Service Mobile app, or
  •  See a list of apps—tap on the Field Service canvas/model-driven app to launch it.

Optional: Configure Offline Mode (Advanced Setup)

The Field Service Mobile app supports offline scenarios with built-in sync filters.

To configure:

  •  Admins can go to Field Service App > Settings > Mobile Configuration
  •  Customize what data syncs offline (e.g., last 7 days of work orders)
  •  Set sync frequency or allow manual sync

Technicians can sync data using the sync icon in the mobile app.

Security and Roles

Ensure the following roles are assigned to mobile users:

  •  `Field Service – Resource`
  •  `Field Service – Mobile User`
  •  Or a custom role with required privileges on Work Orders, Bookings, Incidents, Assets, and Notes

Customizing the Mobile App

Admins can tailor the app using:

  •  Power Apps (Model-Driven) for layout changes
  •  Mobile Offline Profiles for data sync scope
  •  JavaScript or Business Rules for logic

For major changes, deploy via Power Platform Admin Center or Power Platform CLI.

Final Checks

After installation and first-time setup:

  •  Try opening a work order
  •  Check GPS & map integration
  •  Capture a signature or photo
  •  Test offline mode (optional)
  •  Validate sync times and logs
