Dynamics 365 Field Service : Assign requirement group templates to incident types
In Dynamics 365 Field Service, efficient resource scheduling is key to delivering high-quality service. When service work requires multiple resources—such as a technician, a helper, and special equipment—you can streamline this process using Requirement Group Templates. These templates define groups of resources that should be scheduled together for specific types of work.
What Are Requirement Group Templates?
A Requirement Group Templateis a reusable setup that defines a group of related resource requirements needed to perform a particular service. For example, a group might consist of:
- 1 Electrician
- 1 Helper
- 1 Vehicle
This ensures that whenever such a job is scheduled, all the necessary resources are considered together.
What Are Incident Types?
An Incident Typerepresents a specific kind of service request or issue, like "AC Maintenance" or "Wiring Inspection." It defines:
- The default service tasks
- Duration
- Products or services
- Required resources (via requirement groups)
By associating an Incident Type with a Requirement Group Template, you ensure that the correct combination of resources is automatically prepared when a Work Order is created.
Assigning Requirement Group Templates to Incident Types – Step-by-Step
1. Navigate to Field Service > Settings > Incident Types.
2. Open or create the Incident Type you want to configure.
3. In the Requirement Group Templatefield, select the desired template (e.g., “2 Technicians + Ladder”).
4. Save the Incident Type.
Now, when this Incident Type is selected on a Work Order, the related requirement group is automatically applied.
Benefits
- Faster and more accurate scheduling
- Consistent resource allocation across work orders
- Fewer manual errors or omissions during work order creation
- Ideal for complex services involving multiple resource types
By using Requirement Group Templates with Incident Types, Field Service organizations can ensure that the right team with the right tools is assigned every time—improving both efficiency and customer satisfaction.
