Azure CLI and PowerShell Tools Build 2024 Announcement
Microsoft has announced several new capabilities for Azure CLI and Azure PowerShell at the Microsoft Build 2024. The priority remains to provide customers with the most complete, secure, and easy-to-use tools to manage Azure resources. The new capabilities include extending their coverage, improvements in user login experience, security improvements, and investing in Copilot in Azure. The addition of AzureSphere, AzureMonitor/DataCollectionRule, AzureMonitor/Metricdata, AzureMonitor/ActionGroup, Workloads, Fleet, CustomLocation, EventGrid, Subscription, ContainerApp modules or API upgrades, Azure CLI upgraded or added new commands is also part of the announcement.
Furthermore, Microsoft has worked on hardening your defense in-depth with secrets awareness in Azure command-line tools. Azure CLI 2.61.0 and Azure PowerShell 12.0.0 have enabled secret detection by default in Local installation, Azure DevOps, GitHub action, and CloudShell. Moreover, Azure CLI and Azure PowerShell announced WAM preview versions in 2023, and now WAM is the default authentication mechanism with Azure CLI 2.61.0 and Azure PowerShell 12.0.0 versions.
Lastly, long-term support releases for Azure CLI and PowerShell have been announced, providing users with the choice to stay in the LTS version or upgrade with the latest version to experience new features. GitHub actions for Azure CLI and Azure PowerShell have also been introduced, giving users support for managed identity login, self-hosted runners, OIDC support, and more.
